The Instrumental Music Service operates in all 17 Community School Networks across Aberdeenshire, providing group and individual lessons.

We are committed to working together with schools and communities to secure continuous improvement in outcomes for children and young people and to have better, integrated working arrangements within Education and Children's Services in pursuit of improved outcomes for children and young people.

    This survey is for pupils and parents/carers

    Aberdeenshire Youth Music Sessions will deliver extra-curricular ensemble opportunities outside of the school day. It is planned to put this new model in place in Term 3 (January to March) 2022-23, to ensure extra-curricular activity continues.  Play days, weekend ensemble music making sessions and condensed rehearsals led by Instrumental Music Service instructors will take place on selected dates in Term 3. Sessions will take place at weekends at Inverurie Academy and Mackie Academy.  Please complete the questions in the survey in order for us to plan future sessions.  Pupils and parents will be notified of the confirmed timetable before the end of Term 2.


    The sessions will run in Term 3 January to March 2023 with a concert at the end of March.

    The project offers for the current academic year

    • Concert Band, Grade 1 to 4 (Inverurie Academy)
    • Concert Band, Beginners to Grade 4 (Mackie Academy)
    • Junior Strings Ensemble, Grades 1-2 (Inverurie Academy)


    Delivery model options: 4 x whole-day sessions or 4 half-day sessions. 

    Fees for the sessions will be:

    • £10 for the whole day
    • £6 for a half day

    Pupils registered for free school meals will be exempt from fees

    This survey is for Music Instructors, Volunteers and Young Leaders


    We would like to give Music Instructors, Volunteers and Young Leaders an opportunity to make comments on the Aberdeenshire Youth Music Sessions (AYMS) projects that were delivered in February and March 2023.


    The extra-curricular activity comprised:

     

    • Junior Strings Ensemble, Beginners to Grade 3 (Inverurie Academy)
    • Concert Band, Beginners to Grade 4 (Mackie Academy)
    • Junior Strings Ensemble, Beginners to Grade 3 (Mackie Academy)

     

    The duration of the sessions was decided following a survey to parents/carers and pupils.

    Each session cost £6.00.

    Pupils registered for free school meals were exempt from fees.

    More advanced pupils were given the opportunity to support the projects in the role of Young Leaders.
