The Scottish Youth Parliament Elections will take place in November 2026.Young People who will be 14-25yrs November 2026 are eligible to stand. To express interest and learn more about becoming a SYP Election Candidate please go to the SYP Election page via following link SYP Elections

Scottish Youth Parliament Sitting June 2026

Firstly thank you nearly 500 Young People in Aberdeenshire who contributing their views to help our MSYPs represent you.

The motions passed with some amendments and we hope to share news over the coming terms from young people campaigning.

Examples of successful motions and follow up actions from MSYP's

Local MSYP Mairi Millar, (Angus and Mearns) Launches 'Providing Access, Dismantling Stigma' (PADS) Campaign. The PADS Campaigh began as a members motion in the Scottish Youth Parliament which passed in the October 2024 SYP sitting (passing with 98% support) PADS aims to challenge the issue of inaccessible period products in secondary schools as well as de-stigmatising periods and how to make secondary schools across Scotland period products champions. Following research and producing a report making recommendations to schools across Scotland.

Mairi Millar Aberdeenshire MSYP for Angus North and Mearns is currently actively engaging with schools on her PADS campaign to ensure period provision under the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 is being delivered in an accessible and dignified way.

Did you know the under 22s bus started as a motion in the Scottish Youth Parliament?
