The Act gives local authorities in Scotland the power to introduce a levy that is charged on the purchase of overnight accommodation at a percentage rate. It will be for each local authority to decide after consultation, whether or not to introduce a visitor levy scheme.
Aberdeenshire Council is now seeking the views of stakeholders before taking a decision on whether a visitor levy would be appropriate for Aberdeenshire. This is an initial consultation, to enable Aberdeenshire Council to shape a Visitor Levy proposal for full consultation, which will take place later this year.
Your responses and those form other stakeholders will help Aberdeenshire Council develop a potential scheme and it is expected that the Council will consult again on the levy in the autumn. Councillors will then use all of the feedback from both phases of consultation to decide whether it is appropriate to introduce a visitor levy in Aberdeenshire.
