The Carnegie Building is the former home of Peterhead Library and the Arbuthnot Museum.
Built in the 1890’s and associated with the legacy of Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Building is CategoryC listed with around 800 square meters of space over four floors including the iconic clock tower.
As part of the development of a cultural quarter in Peterhead, the Library and Museum will be moving to a new home at a refurbished and extended Arbuthnot House. Plans have also been developed to demonstrate how their former home can be brought back into use as a cultural space.
Peterhead Library has moved to a temporary new location during the construction of the new library and Museum of Aberdeenshire centred around Arbuthnot House on Broad Street which is being funded by the UK Government and other external funding sources.
The Carnegie Building project aims to sensitively restore this historic building while adding the essential upgrades it needs to function as a modern, accessible venue to be operated by a cultural organisation or business.
Aberdeenshire Council is committed to working with stakeholders to identify future funding streams and ensuring the building enjoys a long new lease of life.
