Help us to shape Aberdeenshire Council Care at Homeand theAberdeenshire Responders for Care at Home Service
As part of the work to bring our budgets back into line, the Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership is currently reviewing the way that we provide Care at Home and our 24/7 ARCH services.
We currently commission about 70% of the Care at Home which is delivered across Aberdeenshire. This means that about 30% of our care at home is delivered in-house, meaning that the carers that are employed by Aberdeenshire Council.
As part of the service review and redesign, we will be looking at how we can move more of what we currently deliver to independent providers and we would like to know about your experiences of using our in-house Care at Home service and ARCH.
If we do begin to commission (buy) more care from the independent sector this would not mean that you would stop getting the care you need but it would mean that someone else might provide it.
Demographic Pressures
We know that in Aberdeenshire:
There will be a 23% increase in the number of people aged 65+ living in Aberdeenshire compared to 19.3% nationally.
Projected increase of 42.6% in the number of households with someone aged 75 years and older.
Healthy life expectancy (the number of years we live without serious illness or disability) in Aberdeenshire remains above the national average. However, the trend is going down meaning we are becoming sicker earlier.
As we age, we tend to have more complex health needs. Many people will have 2 or more medical conditions requiring more support and care.
Financial challenges
The Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership (AHSCP), which is responsible for delivering Community Health and Social Care, is overseen by the Integration Joint Board (IJB).
The AHSCP will need to make over £17million of savings in 2024/25 and this all means that we must do more within our current budgets and need to shape the home care and ARCH service for the future to help people stay as independent as they can be and providing support where there is no alternative care provision to the Aberdeenshire service.
Please complete our online survey below, it closes on Monday 7th April 2025.
A paper copy is available at the right hand side of the screen to download. If you require an alternative format, please get in touch, contact details are on the right hand side of the screen. The return postal address is also on the right hand side of the screen.
Thank you.
