Consultation has concluded
Aberdeenshire Council has been developing the second version of its Gaelic Language Plan throughout 2021. This new Plan will cover the period from 2022-27, and aims to continue the progress that was made in the first Plan.
Aberdeenshire Council recognises the value and importance of Gaelic to Scotland and is committed to promoting its use and status across the region. The Plan also fulfils the council's statutory duty to prepare a Gaelic Language Plan.
Our plan illustrates how we intend to increase the visibility of Gaelic, promote its acquisition and learning, and encourage its use in Aberdeenshire as our contribution to safeguarding its future in Scotland
Finalising the Plan
The draft Gaelic Language Plan was publicly available for comment and feedback in September/October 2021. The feedback from the consultation, and from the council's six Area Committees, was taken into consideration for the final draft Plan.
The final draft Plan was then approved at the council's Business Services Committee on 11th November 2021 to be sent onto the Bord Na Gaidhlig (principal Gaelic body in Scotland) for feedback before the Plan is finalised. This is likely to be provided in early 2022, and we can provide a further update by Spring.
