The annual housing land audit gives details of the location, characteristics, and status of sites which make up the housing land supply in Aberdeenshire. It is used to determine if there is sufficient land available for housing development and also to inform the planning of future infrastructure such as roads, schools and drainage.
The audit is undertaken jointly by Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeen City Council in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. It has a base date of 31st March 2026 and lists sites with a capacity for four or more units which are allocated for housing in the local development plan(External link) or have planning consent for housing development.
The draft audit is now available through the links on this page and we would welcome your comments on it. The consultation documents comprise:
1. Introduction and Glossary. This provides definitions of the terms used in the draft audit.
2. Draft Housing Land Audit 2026 - spreadsheet giving details of all individual sites and summary information on annual programming for areas and settlements, together with details of site removed from the audit.
3. Interactive map which enables you to select areas/ settlements and view site boundaries and details.
We plan to hold a joint roundtable event on Tuesday 22 September 2026,to discuss the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire joint Housing Land Audit to which all stakeholders who submit a response are welcome to attend. For several years the roundtable event has been conducted as an online only meeting. We are interested in understanding the level of interest in the roundtable event if it was held online or in-person. If it was in person, the event would be held in Aberdeen city centre. The roundtable event typically lasts three to four hours. Please see the adjacent Quick Poll to express your preference.
Responses to the consultation will be used to make amendments to the draft audit and any outstanding issues will be discussed at the meeting, further details of which will be provided nearer the time.
