Aberdeenshire Council are consulting on the permanent closure of Kinneff School. The consultation period will run from 12 January to 6 March 2026.
Aberdeenshire Council proposes to discontinue education at Kinneff School which is currently mothballed (temporary closure) and re-assign its catchment area to either Bervie School or Catterline School.
This consultation is being undertaken in accordance with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. The Act requires that changes to the school estate, including the proposed closure of a school is subject to rigorous statutory consultation.
Following the consultation period all comments received will be analysed, along with any written responses and emails received regarding the proposal.
Due to the continued weather warnings and current road conditions the decision was made to change the in-person meeting which was originally planned on this date at the Kinneff & Catterline Village Hall to an online Microsoft Teams meeting. A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held online on 4th February 2026 at 6.30pm.
The face to face meeting will be rescheduled to Tuesday 3rd March, 6pm at Kinneff & Catterline Village Hall, Kinneff, Montrose, DD10 0TE. The information shared at both meetings will be the same.
We want to get your views on the changes for Kinneff School and the two options being proposed for the current catchment area of the school. These options are detailed in the survey and the consultation document.
