Update following Integrated Joint Board Meeting 28th January 2026

During October and November 2025, we asked patients registered with Newburn at Oldmeldrum Medical Practice to tell us how the closure of the Fyvie branch practice had impacted on them. This was done through face-to-face events and a questionnaire.

Key themes from the public are:

  • Travel and Transport
    1. Increased distance to access services
    2. Impact on work/school day due to increased travel time
    3. Limited public transport options
    4. Distance from bus stop to Oldmeldrum Practice
    5. Reliant on other to travel to services now
  • Issues relating to Newburn
    1. Difficulty accessing appointments at Oldmeldrum
    2. Difficulty making appointments on behalf of family members
    3. Concerns regarding number of available appointments
    4. Difficulty accessing presciptions
  • General
    1. Concerns regarding reduction of services available locally

Next steps identified in response to the key themes above:

  • Travel and Transport

Within the survey, many respondents shared difficulties they experience using public transport to access the GP practice in Oldmeldrum. These concerns will be shared with Aberdeenshire Council and local public transport providers.

  • Issues relating to the GP Practice

Respondents to the survey expressed frustration and concerns with regard to accessing services at the practice. These will be shared with Newburn for their awareness. Work will also continue to support the practice to set up a patient engagement forum.

  • Issues relating to access to Prescriptions

Respondents expressed difficulties accessing prescriptions in a timely manner. It is not clear where the issue lies here so would require further investigation to understand what if anything would improve patient experiences.

Decision

A report on Fyvie Health Centre was discussed at the Integration Joint Board meeting on 28th January 2026. You can review the report and appendices – see item 12 on the agenda. The Board agreed a recommendation to declare Fyvie Health Centre surplus to requirements and recommend to NHS Grampian that they dispose of the building in accordance with their processes.
