Overview
The Integrated Travel Towns (ITTs) Project was launched by Aberdeenshire Council to support the promotion and uptake of more sustainable and active travel in towns across the Council area. The Council’s Strategy Development and Active Travel Team has, to date, worked with communities in Ellon, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie and Portlethen to develop ITT Masterplans for each town. These initial first five ITT Masterplans, which were published in 2018, set out a range of proposals from infrastructure developments designed to support more active and integrated travel, to wider interventions such as mapping, signage, events and promotional activities, which aim to provide wider community benefits. The Council has been working to implement these Masterplans in recent years, with a number of interventions now implemented or progressing through the delivery process

In 2025, the Council commenced a further programme of work to support further ITT Masterplan development in Banff, Macduff, Mintlaw, Turriff, Stonehaven and Westhill and has commissioned consultants AECOM to support and deliver a wide-ranging programme of community and stakeholder consultation, with a view to developing specific masterplans for each town.

We have held multiple engagement activitied with the communities of Banff, Macduff, Mintlaw, Turriff, Stonehaven and Westhill to determine the problems and opportunities for improving active and sustainable travel with the aim of improving safety and connections within these towns. This engagement will consisted of key stakeholder workshops which will took place in March and April 2026. As part of this engagement we will be also engaged with key council services, councillors, community councils and representatives. School workshops are to take place in June 2026.
