When does the new campus open?

The current programme indicates the construction of the campus being completed by August 2028.

Where will the new campus be?

Peterhead Community Campus is split between two sites. The educational campus and dry community sports facilities will be constructed on the playing fields off Kinmundy Road, this is commonly known as Site 1. Community facilities, including a theatre, swimming pool and other community spaces will be developed at the current Peterhead Academy site. This is commonly known as Site 2 and will commence following the occupation of site 1.

Which schools will be in the new campus?

Peterhead Academy, Anna Ritchie Special School and a merger of Dales Park and Meethill Primaries will be located in the new campus. All three schools, whilst within the same building will be completely separate from each other. Each school will have their own separate pupil access points into the building.

How many pupils will the building accommodate?

The building will have capacity for 1,350 academy pupils.

Will the roads and parking infrastructure remain the same?

New roads and parking infrastructure, off-road walking and cycling routes to the campus will be designed and built, following best practice guidelines and Aberdeenshire Council standards. All new infrastructure will be determined through the planning process including consultation with the Roads Department team to ensure the provision is appropriate. Involvement from the Transport Strategy Team and Public Transport Unit will also take place to ensure safe routes to school and the wider community campus are planned and identified.

What will happen to the vacant sites after the schools have relocated?

Aberdeenshire Council has an Asset Disposal Policy which must be followed when assets become surplus to requirements. It would be the intention of Education and Children’s Services to declare the buildings surplus to requirement, other council services will be approached to express an interest in the sites. There is a requirement to retain the current Peterhead Academy site for the development of the community facilities, however the extent of the size of site required has yet to be confirmed, which may enable partial disposal of surplus area. It is widely recognised through community engagement of the public’s aspiration to retain as much green space as possible following the relocation of the schools.

What size is the Kinmundy site? Is it large enough for what you are proposing?

The Kinmundy site is 30 acres and is sufficient in size to deliver all new buildings as part of the PCC project.
