Consultation has concluded

This project focuses on the building which hosts the existing Arbuthnot Museum and Library on St Peter Street.  As part of the wider Peterhead Cultural Quarter project, the museum and library will relocate to the new facility on the Arbuthnot House site.  The St Peter St building, an Andrew Carnegie library opened in 1893, would be restored and renovated, preserving its key architectural and historical features which have recently led to its listing by Historic Environment Scotland.

As a prominent and cherished local landmark in Peterhead's townscape, it is considered important that this building retains a public role.  Renamed the Carnegie Building, it is currently proposed that a conversion would be made to a live performance venue, something that has been identified in gap analysis as missing in Peterhead. This could be a venue for live music, comedy, drama or dance. It would be operated by a private sector partner, and could also function as a café-bar or food venue.
