Storms Arwen, Malik and Corrie Community Engagement

Aberdeenshire has recently experienced three significant storms in Arwen, Malik and Corrie. It is therefore important that as a Council the experiences, observations and priorities of our communities regarding the impact of these storm events are captured. Equally it is important to also establish what more could be in place at the individual, group, community and local authority levels should future extreme weather events be experienced.

Whilst it is clear from contact with communities following the storms, communities wish to move forward from the events, it is equally clear that many communities wish to have more established resilience arrangements in place. With this in mind, a short focused questionnaire concentrating on three aspects – what worked well, what didn’t work well and what can communities and Aberdeenshire Council do to prepare for the future – has been prepared for your input and feedback.

In addition to the targeted questionnaire it is also intended to hold Area based sessions where Community Councils and other community groups will be invited to an online facilitated session to further consider the impacts of the storms and how to move forward to ensure community resilience plans and measures are in place where necessary.

The questionnaire consists of both general questions and those that relate specifically to Storm Arwen and Storms Malik and Corrie. Please provide a single response on behalf of your organisation.

It is hoped that this process will assist in identifying ways in which communities can better prepare for future extreme weather events and provides the opportunity for collective community learning on becoming more resilient. Your insights and feedback are highly valued.
