Summer of Play 2021
Consultation has concluded
We hope you enjoyed the Live Life Aberdeenshire Summer of Play!
You or your children may have taken part in our half day summer camps or our sports specific activities. Or perhaps you attended some of our free family sessions at our sports centres, swimming pools and museums? Maybe you took up the offer of free passes for some local visitor attractions or took part in one of our cultural projects?
We would love to hear what you did this summer and what you thought of the Summer of Play. We have provided several tools below for you to use to give your feedback - please feel free to use as many as you wish!
You can even upload your child's drawing showing what they enjoyed this summer (in the Tell us your Story tab below). We will choose the best drawing submitted to us by the end of August. The winner will win a family tubing pass for one of our outdoor ski centres!
If you would like to provide more detailed feedback, or have a private discussion, please feel free to email llacustomerservice@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

Summer of Play
by Mrs Paterson, over 4 years agoWell what can I say Live Love Aberdeenshire, you should be commended for a truly wonderful ‘Summer of Play’.I was so impressed with the summer programme on offer during the school holidays. My daughter attended the camps in Meldrum and thoroughly enjoyed every session. She even thanked me for booking her in!
She said she particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to try new activities that she would have never signed up for otherwise. Also, I think getting the chance to mix with other children from different schools offered some social interaction that kids have been crying out for.

The Best Summer
by Kerry, over 4 years agoWell what can I say....Massive thank you to Peter Young, Aberdeenshire Council and all the wonderful playworkers who made this possible.
As a working mum of two children with Autism these summer camps and activities have been an absolute godsend.
We have attended all the camps (Ellon and Meldrum) and my children have tried so many different activities.
My son doesn't usually entertain the idea of clubs but he has managed the whole 7 weeks and it really wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful staff who encouraged him. And he ended up having the best time.

My daughter has also attended all the camps and so many different activities, she has tried her hand at cheerleading, tennis, jogging and multisports .
This has been great for the children in giving them new opportunities, gaining confidence, learning new skills and socialising but it has also been a godsend for me. I am self employed and especially given the current situation with Covid I really couldn't afford to take time off work. I don't have family to rely on but thanks to the camps I was able to continue working.
I honestly struggle to put into words how much I appreciate everyone who has made these camps and activities possible.
I have never seen such a selection of children's activities in the Shire and I really do hope these continue in the holidays.
I now have two children who don't want to go back to school as they have enjoyed these clubs so much.
Charlotte says she has had the best summer holidays!!!

by Caroilne , over 4 years agoWe had a wonderful experience of summer of play 2021. Having recently moved we did not know of all the wonderful activities that were offered free of charge over the summer. My 10 year old attended the half day kids club at Mill o Forest there was a great range of activities offered Dodgeball, frisbee. His favourite activities were the climbing wall, Zorbs and archery.
Both my 10 year old and my 13 year old have loved being able to go to the open air pool with their friends.
The sessions are very well organised and well life guarded.

Amazing fun for the kids
by Erin S, over 4 years agoMy son attended the sports camp every week they were at our local centre, he got to try sports he normally wouldn’t, coding, orienteering, basketball the list goes on. He came out every time so happy and loved every minute. He got on great with the instructors and now sees them out & about. An amazing thing to put on for free & we will 100% use again. Same with the swimming AMAZING thing to have on for families as the days are hard to fill and the pennies quickly add up so to have an activity on that’s free... Continue reading

by Leanne Reid , over 4 years agoMy eldest daughter, 10 had thoroughly enjoyed the camps throughout the summer in Banff - she had a great time meeting new friends & took part in lots of different activities. The leaders were lovely & really made things lots of fun for the kids. Meanwhile my youngest daughter, 2 has attended some of the free swimming sessions & is getting so much more confident in the water & asks to go swimming daily! Thanks so much for the opportunity to attend these after a tough year. by Lynn780 , over 4 years agoMy son aged 8 attended some of the camps and he had a fantastic time.
He took part in all the activities and there was a good variety on offer.
The staff were great, sign in/ out process was easy and efficient and there were suitable covid restrictions in place.
I was happy and reassured that he was safe and enjoying himself when he was there. He always came out with a smile on his face and tales to tell.It is important to me that he takes part in physical activities and after lockdown it was great for him... Continue reading

It was very helpful for us as well as over 7 weeks of school holidays was a long time to fill with activities and was a financial benefit to us due to being working parents with access to a certain amount of annual leave and childcare.
As a family we have also benefited from a free family swim and will be attending the lighthouse museum as we’ve never been before, so we can all enjoy a little bit of fun over the holidays
