Talking about Diversity and Community Belonging
Talking about Diversity and Community Belonging
Across Aberdeenshire, the Community Learning and Development Service is having discussions with existing learners and groups about community cohesion. This is part of the Scottish Government Cohesion Week of Action from 9th to 13th March.
We would like to get your feedback about what this means for you.
Community cohesion is about belonging and safety, which means people feel they belong where they live, feel safe being themselves, and trust the people and services around them.
Intersectionality means that all these parts exist at the same time.
They don’t switch on and off. They overlap and affect how people are treated.
What is Diversity?
Diversity means people are different in many ways
Everyone belongs to several groups at the same time
Some differences you can see (like skin colour or age)
Some differences you can’t see (like beliefs or feelings)

The text around the circle reads: Religion / Belief, Ethnic / Cultural / Racial, Gender / Sex, Sexual Orientation, Family, Age, Neurodiversity, Disability, Socioeconomic / Class, Linguistic)
