The town has many advantages and strengths: it has a railway station; the Mearns Academy School Campus contains many facilities for the community; playing field facilities are still expanding; several community buildings have been refurbished to a high standard and continue to be well-run and well-used; there is a wide range of community activity, sporting, social and interest-based; Laurencekirk is also the shopping hub for the surrounding rural area.

Between 2001 and 2011, the population more or less doubled, and in 2021 continues to grow.

in the last 18 months, COVID also has changed the way we use existing facilities and interact as a community.

If you live in and around Laurencekirk or rely on services and amenities in Laurencekirk, you are invited to have your say on how the future should look.

. Over the next few months, you will be asked to

  • Tell us what activities make you happy
  • Share your ideas for improvements, changes and additions to amenities in Laurencekirk
  • Share your needs, aspirations and identify barriers

What we want to achieve:

  • To guide the provision of new amenities in Laurencekirk as the town continues to grow;
  • To show the best way to invest developer contributions on village halls and sparts amenities;
  • To maximise opportunities for new projects and attract additional funds from outside sources.

To make the process work, we need as many people as we can to get involved. You can start helping to increase awareness by telling your friends and family about this site and the opportunity to be heard.

There are lots of opportunities planned for you to have your say. Community consultation will include face-to-face meetings, focus groups, public sessions and this engagement page, where you are invited to share your ideas and find out more.

The final output will be a printed summary document which any organisation can use to underpin plans and proposals, large and small, for the future of Laurencekirk.
