Tenant participation is supported by law to make sure tenants have a real say in how housing services are run and improved. This means social landlords must provide opportunities for tenants to share their views, get involved in decisions, and influence how services are delivered.
To support this, a dedicated Tenant Participation budget is used to fund activities that help tenants take part. Based on this year’s budget, funding is mainly used for communication and engagement, such as newsletters and printed information (£16,800), events and meetings including catering and travel (£5,500 combined), and training and conferences to help tenants build skills and confidence (£6,800). There is also funding for memberships and digital tools (around £3,600), as well as support for Registered Tenant Organisations (£1,200), plus smaller costs like postage and local group support. Staff costs are not included, meaning the full budget is focused on making sure tenants can get involved, share their views, and help shape housing services in a way that works for them.
