Castleton Br

Bridges play an important role in connecting people, goods and transport.

Aberdeenshire Council is responsible for 3,500 miles of public road, carried by 1,308 bridges, which equates to a bridge approximately every 2.7 miles of road. This reflects the highly dispersed and economically active communities that we have across our area.

Severe weather events in recent years have increased the number of bridge closures and restrictions due to flood damage. This has resulted in the undermining of abutments, piers and foundations leading to a deterioration in structural condition.

Aberdeenshire Council have devised a draft policy and associated procedure to show how we think works required on bridges will be prioritised and available funding allocated. We are looking for comments on our proposals to allow us to better understand public aspirations.
