AHSCP Equality Outcomes 2024 - 2028
The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. The Act means that it is unlawful to discriminate against anyone because of age, being or becoming a transsexual person, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or on maternity leave, disability, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation. These are called 'protected characteristics'.
You are protected from discrimination at work, in education, as a consumer, when using public services, when buying or renting property or as a member or guest of a private club or association. You are also protected from discrimination if you are associated with someone who has a protected characteristic, such as a family member or friend, or you have complained about discrimination or supported someone else's claim.
Everyone is protected by the Equality Act 2010 as every person has at least one or more of the above protected characteristics.
As a public body, Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) has a duty to take account of the need to:
- eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation,
- advance equality of opportunity,
- foster good relations.
To support its work in relation to equalities every 4 years AHSCP sets Equality Outcomes, these outline how AHSCP aim to improve quality of life for everyone and improve the experience of using health and social care services in Aberdeenshire.
The current Equality Outcomes (2020-2024) are:
Equality Outcome 1: We will enable people to have improved health and wellbeing as a result of access to person-centred, holistic services.
Equality Outcome 2: People will be supported to look after their health and wellbeing and live well by accessing advice and support that is relevant to their needs.
Equality Outcome 3: Through meaningful engagement, our health and social care services will understand and reflect the needs of their diverse service users.
Equality Outcome 4: We will enable effective communication between patients/service users and staff to ensure person-centred care is provided.
The brief survey below is an opportunity to provide AHSCP with feedback on how it is currently performing and will support AHSCP in the development of its next set of Equality Outcomes. Your contribution to this would be much appreciated.
