Black History Month

Friday, October 1, marks the start of Black History Month in the UK this year. Observed annually, it is a chance to recognise the contributions of Black people throughout history and celebrate Black cultures. It is also an opportunity to focus on how Black history is being made here and now.
We will be marking the celebration by sharing stories, thoughts, and themes throughout October. This year’s theme for Black History Month is ‘Proud to Be’ and we are keen to share stories from Black Aberdeenshire Council colleagues and Aberdeenshire residents and about their pride in their heritage, cultures, and identities. As part of this, the Equalities Team are keen to share a range of content – whether it is photos, videos, music, poems, stories, or other pieces of writing.
Please use this space to share what makes you proud to be Black.
We are keen to ensure that the voices from Aberdeenshire's Black communities are highlighted through our marking of Black History Month. Please leave your first name and nearest town in the about you section as we can then properly attribute the content received.
