Consultation has concluded
Aberdeenshire Council has consulted the local community and businesses on improving the area in front of Clerkhill Shopping Precinct in Peterhead, known as the public realm.
Clerkhill Shopping Precinct is within a 20 minute walk of around 8000 people living in Peterhead. The shops are well used and popular. While the shops are owned privately the public realm is now managed by Aberdeenshire Council.
Clerkhill Shopping Precinct sits on a sloping site. Accessibility standards have changed since it was built and the area around the shops does not meet modern expectations.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the surveys that closed on Sunday 17th July 2022. That engagement found that the look and feel of the site could be improved and that changes to make it safer, easier to maintain and more appealing to spend time in would be welcomed. It confirmed the shops were popular and well used, with the efforts of the operators to make their premises appealing being appreciated.
The survey also suggested that the community might take up a role in greening the area by looking after planters.
A new design to improve the area and reflect local priorities was prepared. You can view the design drawing in the documents section. Feedback was collected from Tuesday 5th December to Monday 8th January. Thank you for leaving feedback.
At the same time Aberdeenshire Council asked for notes of interest in taking on looking after planters, for which the design leaves space. If you noted an interest through the recent survey, thank you. You should have been contacted by the Buchan Area Manager's Team to follow up.
Unfortunately, no agreements have been reached to look after planters but space will be held in the design so that planters can be added at a later date.
Following on from all of the engagement contractors started on site on Monday 19th August, the public realm works are expected to take eight weeks to complete.
