Community Energy Household Survey

Aberdeenshire Council is exploring ways to help households cut their energy bills. It is also looking to play its part in meeting Scotland’s climate change goals. The Council has already invested in installing solar panels on many of its homes. Solar power is not suitable to be installed on every home and the Council is exploring ways to help all homes cut their energy bills.

The Council is considering building a solar farm on land that it owns. It may also add some wind turbines where these are suitable. Instead of selling the electricity produced by these solar farms and/or wind turbines to big organisations, there is now a way for the Council to sell electricity to households in its area, helping households reduce their costs. The same approach could be taken when the Council puts solar panels on its own larger buildings and generates more electricity than the building needs.

A household could take part by switching supplier to one which can supply the Council’s electricity to it. Households could save up to a fifth of their electricity bill (dependant on the circumstances for each home).

It will take a while before the Council can make an offer to sell electricity to you, if it does proceed.
