Introduction
Aberdeenshire Council is proposing changes to how festive lighting is managed.
The aim is to give communities more say and flexibility, so local groups can choose where lights go in a way that reflects their area, while still keeping people safe.
Under the proposal, communities could request festive lights on any street, rather than being limited to town centres or busy areas. Requests would usually be approved, unless there are safety concerns.
The Council would continue to provide a set annual budget for electricity, shared out based on population. To manage costs, communities would be expected to cover any additional costs needed for installing and running extra lights.
These changes are based on feedback from communities who want more control and flexibility to create festive displays that suit their local area.
