Aberdeenshire Council commissioned transport consultants AECOM to develop and appraise options for an active travel route between Inverurie and Oldmeldrum, in alignment with Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG). The aim of this commission is to encourage sustainable travel in the study area show in Figure 1.

The study would bring the previous relevant work up to date and establish a clear strategic case for the route, in line with current policy including the National Transport Strategy (NTS2), Strategic Transport Projects Review 2 (STPR2) and the active travel spending commitments in the current Programme for Government.

We carried out a survey in 2024 to identify the key problems and opportunities faced by those who travel in the area highlighted in Figure 1, as well as to document potential interventions that would address the identified problems or build on any of the identified opportunities. The survey also asked about travel habits to help us understand existing levels of walking, wheeling and cycling.

Please note that as part of the survey, active travel refers to walking, wheeling and cycling; wheeling refers to wheeled mobility aids, including wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking frames.

Survey closed 12th July 2024. You can read about the results here: Active Travel Route - Inverurie to Oldmeldrum | What you told us - What we're doing | Engage Aberdeenshire
