King Edward and Fintry Schools
Officers are engaging with stakeholders regarding the merger of King Edward and Fintry Schools.
A decision was made to temporary close (mothball) Fintry School from August 2025 due to the low roll expected for the 2025/26 session.
A statutory consultation will run between 16 February and 27 March 2026 regarding the merger of Fintry School and King Edward School.

Aberdeenshire Council are consulting on the merger of Fintry School and King Edward School. The consultation period will run between 16 February 2026 and 27 March 2026. Aberdeenshire Council are proposing to
Merge Fintry and King Edward Schools retaining only the Fintry School building and permanently discontinue education at King Edward School
OR
Merge Fintry and King Edward Schools retaining only the King Edward School building and permanently discontinue education at Fintry School
The consultation is being undertaken in accordance with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. The Act requires that changes to the school estate, including the proposed closure of a school is subject to rigorous statutory consultation.
Following the consultation period all comments received will be analysed, along with any written responses and emails received regarding the proposal.
All stakeholders are invited to attend a public meeting which will at 6.30pm on 4 March 2026, at Turriff Primary School, Meadowbank Road, Turriff, AB53 4WB to discuss the proposal.
We want to gather your views on the changes to primary provision within the area. The options are fully detailed within the consultation proposal document which can be found via the following link:
