The ambition for Peterhead 2040 is to develop a vision for a successful place. This vision should be a shared one, that is recognised as having meaning by people who live in, work in and visit this unique town and its surrounding area.

To make this possible Aberdeenshire Council has been working on a programme of research and engagement.

Where do we mean?

Peterhead 2040 looks at the place on three scales:

  • The town centre
  • The whole town
  • The surrounding area - using the Peterhead Academy catchment area as giving the best sense of what this looks like

This means Peterhead 2040 includes Boddam, Cruden Bay, Longhaven and St Fergus, as well as the town of Peterhead and all of its neighbourhoods.

At its widest scale Peterhead 2040 should show the big picture and make connections between places, assets and investments, while at a smaller, more local scale each place can also look at using Local Place Plans or Community Action Plans as tools to empower their community to develop.

Why now?

Currently Peterhead is experiencing a period of transition and change with proposed new developments such as the community campus and levelling up redevelopment of Arbuthnot House, as well as investment in energy transition on a significant scale.

Peterhead 2040 should take a long-term view of these changes and identify how they might affect Peterhead and the surrounding area.

Who is involved?

Peterhead 2040 should be a shared vision so everyone should be able to be involved if they visit, live in, work or are educated in the place. Organisations and businesses of all sizes and in all sectors should be involved as they all have a part to play. The timeline on this page sets out when and how engagement will take place.

Peterhead 2040 has also taken into account engagement that has already taken place and aims to include that knowledge of needs and aspirations in its foundations.

What will happen next?

This page will be regularly updated with new information and opportunities to shape the Peterhead 2040 Vision as it develops.

At the same time projects that are planned and underway will continue, and opportunities to learn more about them will be highlighted. You will be able to find links to related projects here.

How can I have my say?

Online engagements and in person events will be added to this page.

You are invited to share your vision for Peterhead in 2040 at any time. Please post your ideas below under Peterhead 2040 - what is your vision?
