What is the Peterhead heritage led regeneration scheme?

This is an area-based funding programme that aims to contribute to the development of vibrant and sustainable places, through community-led regeneration of the historic environment. We are currently developing a bid to Historic Environment Scotland and National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop a heritage led regeneration scheme centred around Broad Street, Peterhead

The scheme will be a mix of public realm improvements, transformational re-development of key priority buildings, a small grants scheme to support maintenance and retrofit of traditional buildings (to battle climate change and aid thermal improvements). Alongside a suite of outreach and training opportunities to promote the heritage of Peterhead and provide a better understanding of traditional construction and how to protect it.

What stage of the Peterhead heritage led regeneration scheme are we at?

At this stage we are starting to shape the bid and plan to submit an expression of interest to our funders in Autumn 2023. We are currently developing a public realm improvement scheme, and a small grants scheme for building owners centred around the Broad Street area. We are also looking at buildings within the town to see which could be taken forward as our key priority project/sIf successful we will enter a 12-month development phase where we will develop the scheme further.

    When will the project start?

If the expression of interest is successful, we will enter a 12-month development phase in Spring 2024, and we will develop our delivery phase application. If this is successful, we will enter a 5-year delivery phase, this is when the physical works will take place and would span 2025 to 2030.

How does this fit with the Levelling Up Bid?

The Peterhead heritage led regeneration scheme is part of the Peterhead Cultural Quarter and the developments around Broad Street, including the public realm, will link in and compliment the works being undertaken in and around Arbuthnott House.

How do I find out more?

As the project is in its early stageswe do not currently have a dedicated webpage but if you would like to see an example of a similar scheme delivered in Fraserburgh you can follow this link.
