Consultation has concluded
The Scottish Seafood Centre of Excellence (SSCE) is an ambitious project to transform the performance of the fishing and seafood supply chain in Scotland through the creation and deployment of a world class industry facility in Fraserburgh.
Led by Scottish White Fish Producers Association (SWFPA) this project involves industry, local government, national and private agencies and academia.
In development for five years, SSCE will accelerate safety and skills training, education and business development, resource efficiency, innovation and sustainability by creating purpose-built classrooms, technical training and technology demonstration spaces and a seafood school.
Owned and operated by SWFPA, SSCE will promote seafood industry career pathways in partnership with Fraserburgh Academy and other schools, strengthening industry’s links with the community. SSCE will become SWFPA’s new headquarters, hosting administrative and corporate functions and training activity. Offices, hot desks, meeting rooms and teleconference facilities with high capacity digital connectivity will be available for staff from industry bodies, agencies and other organisations. SSCE’s well-appointed meeting facilities will attract UK-hosted international fisheries meetings and delegations, in keeping with the UK’s status as a new ‘Coastal State’. The project is a key component of Aberdeenshire Council’s Fraserburgh Regeneration Strategy.
Long-term benefits include intensified activity to enhance fishermen’s safety, performance, resource efficiency and reduce emissions at sea. Onshore, SSCE will help capture a greater share of seafood value add for the UK economy by promoting investment in skills, net zero, technology, careers and fishing communities.
