The Licensing Sub-Committee agreed the following proposed scale on the 1st of May 2026, this is based on the earlier consultation responses of the trade and seeks no change to the current fare scale:
Standard Rate
Period: Applies at al times which do not fall within the late night and festive season rates which are detailed below.
Initial Charge: The first 880 yards or part thereof = £3.15.
Additional Charge: Each additional 1/11th part of a mile or part thereof = £0.23.
Late Night Rate
Period: Applies (a) Mondays to Thursdays from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am the following day; (b) Weekends from 6:00 pm on Friday to 6:00 am on Monday; and (c) Public Holidays from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm these being the 3rd of January, Good Friday and May Day.
Initial Charge: The first 880 yards or part thereof = £4.50.
Additional Charge: Each additional 1/11th part of a mile or part thereof = £0.23.
Festive Season Rate
Period: Applies (a) Between 6:00 pm on the 24th of December until 6:00 am on the 27th of December; (b) Between 6:00 pm on the 31st of December until 6:00 am on the 3rd of January; and (c) Weekends in December from 6:00 pm on the Friday until 6:00 am on the Sunday [(c) to be reviewed]
Initial Charge: The first 880 yards or part thereof = £4.85.
Additional Charge: Each additional 1/11th part of a mile or part thereof = £0.35.
Waiting Time
Per 10 seconds = £0.12.
Multiple Passenger Surcharge
In vehicles so licensed carrying more than 4 passengers, a surcharge of 50% of the above fares may be charged.
Booking Fees
Standard Booking Fee: £0.50.
Airport Booking Fee: Taxi drivers may add any current charge incurred at airports when either dropping off or picking up passengers.
Drivers must make passengers aware in advance that extra charges may be added to the fare. Booking fees to be shown on the meter.
Unacceptable Mess
Passengers are carried on the understanding that the driver may charge a passenger creating an unacceptable mess in the taxi a maximum of £100.00.
Members are interested in your views in respect of all aspects of the proposed fare scale and the consultation has been designed in a way which allows you to simply provide your views on the sections which are of most interest to you.
It is important that when expressing your views you do so in a balanced way and that any proposals put forward consider the likely impact on the trade as well as members of the public.
The consultation should not take longer than 20 minutes to complete.
