Tullynessle School
In May 2024, a decision was made to mothball Tullynessle School from August 2024. Mothballing is the temporary closure of a school which does not, in itself, lead to statutory consultation. Since October 2024, intensive engagement has been carried out with the wider Tullynessle School community.
At its meeting on 22 May 2025, Education and Children’s Services Committee approved the launch of a statutory consultation on the permanent closure of Tullynessle School. The consultation will run from 1 September until 31 October 2025 and any written comments on the proposals must be received by the Council within this time in order for them to be taken into account.
Aberdeenshire Council is proposing to discontinue education at Tullynessle School, which is currently mothballed, and re-assigning its catchment area to either Alford Primary School or Keig School. To find out more about the proposal, view Closure of Tullynessle School consultation documents.
