In May 2024, a decision was made to mothball Tullynessle School from August 2024. Mothballing is the temporary closure of a school which does not, in itself, lead to statutory consultation.

Since October 2024, intensive engagement has been carried out with the wider Tullynessle School community.

At its meeting on 22 May 2025, Education and Children’s Services Committee approved the launch of a statutory consultation on the permanent closure of Tullynessle School.

This consultation will run from 1 September 2025 until 31 October 2025 and a public meeting will be held on 23 September 2025.

There are useful links and documents on this project page regarding the Schools Consultation Act and the Place and Wellbeing Assessment Process.
