Views are being sought from the communities of Torphins and Lumphanan on proposals to come together under one community council. The communities are currently represented by Torphins Community Council and Lumphanan Community Council. The proposals would involve extending Torphins Community Council’s boundary to incorporate the full area currently represented by Lumphanan Community Council. The boundaries can be viewed online here.
Community Council representation is important to provide a strong voice to represent communities’ needs and wishes. As Lumphanan Community Council has struggled to maintain membership and is not currently able to operate, joining Torphins Community Council was proposed as a more sustainable solution for representing the area.

We are pleased to advise that following the further call for new members of Lumphanan Community Council, sufficient nominations have been received to reinstate Lumphanan Community Council. The results can be viewed at Community Council Elections Results. The first meeting of the reinstated Community Council will take place on Tuesday 21 February, 7pm, at Lumphanan Hall.

Taking into account feedback from both communities, the proposals to bring Torphins and Lumphanan together under one community council are being paused to allow for a further attempt to reinstate Lumphanan Community Council. A call for nominations for membership will open in January 2023. Details will be published on the Council's website. Lumphanan residents who might be interest in joining the Community Council are encouraged to contact marr@aberdeenshire.gov.uk to register their interest and be notified once the period for nominations opens.
