Aberdeenshire Council have now taken the decision to demolish the Slains School building. The contract has been awarded and the contractor will start to secure the site ready for demolition on 28 January 2026 with demolition following shortly afterwards. The work is expected to be completed by 25 March 2026.
We are required to undertake a statutory consultation to officially close the school and as per the Schools Consultation (Scotland) (Act) 2010, we are required to identify if there are any alternatives to the closure of Slains School.
While the building is deemed unsafe and is to be demolished, there may be other alternatives for the education provision for the children in the catchment area and we have created a short survey to gather community views and the responses from this will be used to prepare the statutory consultation proposal document which will be shared with you in due course.
